Programming for an Orchestra #3 - Stories of Pan, the faun

 

The basis for this program is the character Pan, the faun from Greek mythology. These pieces surround not only the stories about his myth, flute, his love for the Nymph Syrinx, but also other characters that Pan gets in touch within the mythology stories.

The major problem with this program is the excessive instrumentation of Daphnis and Chloe suite, that use a large number of extra players just for the last 15 mins. My recommendation is that we divide the players between the other pieces to ease the preparation of the repertoire.

Two soloists are needed, however, the solo flute can be played by one of the extra players that play on Daphnis and Chloe.
