Francisco de Lacerda
“A student of Vincent d’Indy, Artúr Nikisch and Hans Richter ”
Who is francisco de Lacerda?
One of the composers that I consider a hidden gem. Just like Vianna da Motta and Bomtempo, he had contact with some of the great artists of his times. He moved to Paris still very young, where he studied with Vincent d'Indy and was influenced by the music of Franck, Fauré, Ravel, Poulenc e Dukas. His body of work is not as vast as the two composers referred in previous pages, but just like Vianna da Motta, he is a symbol of the Portuguese musical nationalism which we find specially in his two song cycles "Trovas".
His orchestral works, available through my editions, are:
Trovas for voice and orchestra (2 song cycles)
Almourol
Pantomina
Dans le clair de lune
Heroiques
Les Morts, for Baritone and orchestra
